Inspiration:
I
was initially inspired by Kim Evans-Werner, a Yes fan and dear friend
from the United States.
Although
I've always enjoyed Rick's playing with Yes, I did not quite realise
how big he was outside the band until Kim drew my attention to this.
I
have tried to capture Rick's flamboyancy on stage by contrasting
bright vivid colours with darker background.
The
Yes Circle Tour programme 2003 helped me create Rick's portrait.
I
could not resist including Rick's least favourite Yes album 'Topographic
Oceans'.
I
have showed him standing beside Roger Dean's artwork looking rather
disconsolate.
I
was also inspired by photographic material 'lifted' from his classic
albums
ie The Six Wives of Henry VIII (Keyboard photo),
Journey to the Centre of the Earth (Gatefold cover photo).
Rick, when he was a schoolboy (the Yes book by Dan Hedges),
also Rick looking hip (the Yes book by Dan Hedges).
Original
painting was created in oils.
