I visited Kate Boats in Warwick, England, U.K. in 2001 where I sold some canal prints into their shop.

While there, the proprietors informed me of a venue for a potential painting on the Grand Union Canal, after I mentioned to them about a viaduct I had heard about through the 'grapevine'.

On viewing it I fell in love with the scene straight away.
Perfect for the sort of composition I enjoy doing.

I immediatley took some photographs, which later helped me to create the image before you.

In the distance, through the arch of the viaduct are Offchurch Locks.

The viaduct at Offchurch, near Radford Semele, Leamington Spa, England, U.K. is opposite the entrance into Lord Guernsey's Park.
It is a well proportioned structure, consisting of five elliptical arches of sixty feet span.

The former Rugby and Leamington Railway (now disused) was carried over the brook on Grand Union Canal.
It is formed by blue Staffordshire bricks, the centre arch crosses the canal obliquely, at forty degrees angle and faced with Derbyshire stone.

To conform with an agreement between Lord Guernsey and the Railway Company the viaduct has an ornamental look about it.

The viaduct was built during the Victorian era around 1845.

Rugby and Leamington railway was opened to trains from 1st March 1851 and was closed in 1959.
