My
attention was drawn to this Windmill through The Jane Powell Art
Studio, and a fellow Artist who lives near the Windmill. She opened
her garden to other Artists, including myself, to paint the windmill
one sunny Summer afternoon in 2001.
This
Windmill was built in 1826. It was a working Mill until 1948, built
on a site of a much older mill. In the 1970's George and Betty Field
restored it with the help of Solihull Council and English Heritage,
and opened it to the public.
Mrs
Field died in 1993, and it again fell into ruin. It was bought by
Jeanette and Paul McGarry in July 2004, and they began restoring
the mill with the help of friends. This group became known as the
Friends Of The Berkswell Windmill. The Windmill is open to visitors
through the summer. For information contact 01676 530085.
