This
is my tribute to the greatest science fiction TV programme of them
all, Doctor Who and it's return to TV.
From
the unsung heroes of the early 1960s when the show began, to the
year 2005 when we see the now, ninth regenerated Doctor (Christopher
Eccleston) take to the screens once more. Doctor Who has become
a national British treasure.
At
the top of my image we see two unsung heroes, the composers of the
original timeless Doctor Who theme tune, Delia Derbyshire at the
Radiophonic Workshop in Maida Vale, London in 1963, and Ron Grainer
at home in Marylebone, London in 1963.
Across
the TARDIS interior wall we see more unsung heroes from left to
right.
Donald
Beaverstock controller of the BBC in 1963. He identified the need
for a family show on BBC TV on Saturday nights.
C.E.
Webber who wrote the first Doctor Who concept proposals to Sydney
Newman
David
Whittaker was the early Doctor Who story editor and writer, and
responsible for many great storylines
Donald
Wilson was Sydney Newman's boss and head of the series.
Sydney
Newman from Canada became head of drama in 1962 and he made Doctor
Who a reality.
Verity
Lambert cast the original four main characters for Doctor Who and
she became the programme's producer. She was hired by Sydney Newman.
At the time she was the youngest female producer in the BBC's history
and that remains the case today.
In
the eye of harmony we meet Doctors eight and nine from different
time zones. Christopher Eccleston looks out at the mayhem from the
eye of harmony and Paul McGann looks on.
