Inspiration:
This
painting was initially inspired by watching a video borrowed from
Roger Clarke (Wolves Of Fenric). It was one of a series of Mythmaking
videos available, cataloguing the actors involved in 'Dr Who' over
the years.
The
video in question was the tribute to Jacqueline Hill who played
Barbara as a companion from the beginning of the series. I was moved
by it, and it was fascinating hearing about her background.
I
decided to do my own tribute, by creating portraits of the actors
who first starred in 'Dr Who', depicted in roles prior to being
brought together by the producer of 'Dr Who' at the time, Verity
Lambert.
Jacqueline
from Birmingham originally worked at Cadbury's, also in Birmingham,
and joined The Drama Society (Amateur Dramatics) there. William
Hartnell's role in 'The Sporting Life' film. Carole Ann Ford as
'Jacky' in a 1963 suspense play called 'The Man On A Bicycle' in
a role with long hair and Russell Enoch as Sir Lancelot on TV.
The
Tardis I have used symbolically, to bring the Mythmaking four together.
The four portrayed wonderful drama in the early 'Dr Who' stories.
I never get fed up of watching them again and again, which is a
testimony to the quality of acting.
"Dear
Kevin, Thank you very much for letting me see your painting. It
brought much joy to me. As did your kind words. Good luck with selling
the painting. Thanks again, Alvin".

Rakoff, director of film, and widower of deceased actress Jacqueline
Hill).
